Build Your Own Skate Shoes
Yeah, my custom etnies totally helped me learn to be a much better skateboarder. Hard to believe when you think about it at first, but consider my reasoning.
Do you remember when you were a bit younger the rush you would get when you received a brand new pair of shoes? Especially if those shoes were pumps, had lights, air bubbles or some other cool feature that made you feel special. I remember I did and have a lot of friends that have talked about feeling like they could suddenly fly, were unstoppable or had somehow been bestowed some divine form of superhuman power. I would run around for days showing off to random old ladies at the store and bragging about my kicks.
Nowadays, since almost every imaginable and unimaginable form of shoe has been created, used and ran out of style, getting a new pair of kicks just isn’t as special as it used to be, especially when you know that nearly 100 million other people have the exact same pair. This is where custom etnies can make all the difference.
I’ve been through a lot of skate shoes and can still recall when most were pretty much the same, so hanging with my skaters would mean that we were sporting identical kicks. I decided to get real and give the “Design Your Own” site a chance and made my very first custom etnies. They were black and had the name “Loco” stitched in white on the sides and believe me, they were much better than those “make your own custom skate shoes by spray painting some old crappy canvas shoes that you find laying in the back of the garage” types. If you know etnies, then you know that they produce high quality skate shoes that can take a beating and with literally thousands of possible configurations, you can feel safe that your custom etnies are the only ones of their kind.
Here’s why I am a better skateboarder because of my custom skate shoes. First off, no, the custom etnies do not give special powers that allow you to ollie higher, complete megaflips or fly (sorry to disappoint!), but what they did provide for me was change on a higher level. Skating is totally about individuality and it may seem strange, but when you feel in your element, that you are individual and unique, you let your own style to flow through your skating. For me, this meant skating faster, smoother and most importantly, happily, with the knowledge that my new custom skate shoes were the only ones of this design in town.
